The loss of this important spot in central Brighton is sad on many levels. Most blame the council for its closure, I don’t. If you read this sign they’re more than happy for it to remain open as it was viewed as culturally important, However they just don’t want dickheads writing over the windows of the Kindergarten that shared the same park.. Not too much to ask. Especially when the wall space for a centrally located spot was enormous and could easily take the strain of the writers that wanted to paint there.

I don’t care whether you agree with me or not DAS had it going on with this rebel base of graffiti in the heart of the laines. He provided a polite yet real face for graffiti and is in part the reason why graffiti is so accepted in our city. He ran the shop like a centre, people dropped in hung out they had rap shows, art shows it connected people and people got beat down it was amazing. Everything it had to be it was, it was a sad day when DAS finally closed the door and moved on to other more lucrative London based ventures.
This picture probably doesn’t sum up the shop completely but because it doesn’t its kinda better. It’s just indicative of the type of shit that went on, Conservation area? fuck that I pay the rent…..
